Writing Prompt
Using at least two primary and secondary sources relating to Native American relocation and Chinese immigration (these sources listed below), students are to compose an argumentative essay to the following writing prompt:
Native Americans were relocated from their homes to accommodate the European Americans that established the nation known as the United States. Chinese immigrants were sought for the building of railroads and for their expertise in the mechanization of industry in the United States and its territories. Neither group was readily accepted by the citizens of the US. Reflect on the historical accounts of these people and discuss what your position is toward current immigration issues and explain why.

Interview with Mary Swift
Write a reflective narrative about our history and the tolerance that history has shown. How as citizens of the US have we treated immigrants historically? In your opinion, why is this treatment repeated? What in your opinion, can we do to change our perspective about individuals and societies that are different from our own? Has this study influenced your opinion? Why or why not?
